Cyberaddiction and academic performance in the area of communication in students of the Viva Esperanza Educational Institution of Juliaca

Cyberaddiction is one of the most alarming and concerning problems in the educational field, associated with poor academic performance in the various areas of basic education. It involves excessive internet use by students, focused on activities not directly related to the learning process, such as social media or browsing websites lacking scientific backing. In this regard, the objective of this study was to determine the degree of compensation between cyberaddiction and academic performance in the area of Communication among students at the Viva Esperanza Educational Institution in the city of Juliaca. Seventy-six secondary school students constituted the study population. Data were collected through a questionnaire addressing internet frequency and reviewing communication assessment records. Spearman's Rho score was used to test hypotheses. According to the results, the Spearman's Rho score coefficient was -0.764; Likewise, the P-value (0.000) was lower than the significance level (0.05), therefore, it was concluded that there is a high negative evaluation between cyberaddiction and academic performance in the area of Communication in students of the Viva Esperanza Educational Institution in the city of Juliaca. This implies that students with a higher level of cyberaction have a low academic performance.
